Summer Fun

I took the girls to the Hale Koa pool in Waikiki yesterday and it turns out about 4 of our neighbor friends had the same idea!  A beautiful day and the girls swam and walked the beach for 5 hours!!

This is a shot of Waikiki beach just beyond the pool boundries!

Olivia is house sitting for our neighbors so we decided to have some fun in the hammock and swing in their yard one night!  I am torn between asking for a hammock and a power washer for my birthday.  Either would make me VERY happy!

Can't really teach that lesson...has to be learned first hand!

Miss you Dada!

We all have our own reasons for missing David this past week...probably none more than the girls having to "do time" for bad behavior by picking up the nasty pods in our yard this time of year. I think two full garbage cans is a new record and I must admit, hard work! I had to laugh as I was yelling at them about "giving them something to do so they would be too tired to fight." Don't know exactly when I turned into my father but alas, it's happened.

Before you get to feeling too sorry for the poor dears, rest assured the rest of the time has been filled with sleepovers, new movies, crafts, pool time and of course...mani-pedi's!

The peace signs were in honor of Olivia's friend throwing a 60's themed birthday party. Of course, little miss had to follow suit but in a more appropriate pink, purple, glitter motif. She idolizes her big sister but only to a point!

While Olivia was away for the night Emily and I had a special dinner for 2 on the lanai, Jolly Ranchers for dessert (her call...not mine...I was pushing hard for brownies) and a "sleepover" in her bed with a movie!

We do miss you honey but are managing in typical girl style...with whipped cream and chocolate! 1/3 of the way through and not looking forward to the real pipeline of 9 weeks. This Navy family is out of practice!!

Lei Day

Lei Day was pretty cute (albeit FAR too long a production). None the less, Emily had a great time performing. Tomorrow is her pre-K graduation (anyone's guess as to why we are doing that) and next week both girls finish up for the summer. For now that's exciting news, check back in about three weeks!!

Dinner Conversation

Me: "Come on Olivia, the least you can do is clear your plate."

Olivia: "No, the least I can do is nothing."

SMACK!! She must get that from her father.

E Ah Ma Ko

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii (of course) and it's a pretty big deal here. Olivia had a fantastic Lei Day performance at her school complete with Hawaiian princes and princesses being carried in on surf boards and them playing "wipe out" on the ukulele! Emily's big show is tomorrow and they are singing the cutest little Hawaiian song!

Happy Mothers Day Crazies!

I hope all the Mommies out there were showered with gifts, flowers, spa treatments, meals, the works...cold hard cash...whatever. There is nothing material that can really thank a Mom for her role but it doesn't kill ya to try once a year! Take Emily's card to me for example. Very close to making it all worth while:

Allow me to translate: UR (You are) Ulitl (a little) CRASe (crazy) BUTi (but I) love u (love you) eNewA (anyway). Well there you go.

I share her sentiment. So to all my favorite Mom's (mine included)...you are a little crazy but I love you anyway! I guess we have to be. Hope you had a great day.

Wrap up

We wrapped up our week on Friday with a Change of Command Ceremony aboard USS LAKE ERIE

The ship looked beautiful and we are anxious to be a part of that Ohana (family) sometime in early 2011.

We then moved across the harbor to a promotion ceremony aboard the Mighty USS MISSOURI which is now a floating museum and a beautiful ship itself (notice the wooden deck and the size of the guns over our heads).

Friday night was another party but Saturday was our first family dinner of the week and I made sushi! I know sushi isn't for everyone but my family really loves it and if I may say so myself it turned out great! I have tried it a few times since I got the kit for Christmas but it's harder than it looks. This is my best so far and it was yummy!

Next week looks slightly less chaotic than last but not by much. This is a busy time for ships and kids so that translates to busy for Mom. Only a few more weeks of school - I think we'll vacation in Hawaii this summer ;)
