Makeover - Jen Style

What can I say? Emily has inspired me to do a makeover of my own. My front porch was looking a little drab so I headed out to Pier One today.

Have I mentioned this house has 4 porches (or as we say in the islands...lanai's)? This is the "main entrance" and where I sit to supervise playground activity or have my morning cup of coffee.
I found a cute outdoor rug and added a "pop" of color and walla! Nice, cozy little spot. Don't miss my cute lanterns hanging from the lattices :)
Only 3 more to go...just kidding honey!

OK, enough about my makeover. I know you are all wondering if Emily had one since the last post. Ha ha, but of course. This was yesterday's (note the fancy hairdo.)

And here is today's that happened while I was sprucing up the lanai. I sighed and said "I would like to go a day without so much makeup on you Emily." This was her response...

Seriously :~

Make-up Madness!

As my Mom and I were wrapping the blush, lip gloss, eyeshadow etc. in the cute make-up case for Christmas she shot me a "this is really cute but it's gonna make you crazy" look. Of course shot back the "I know, but it'll be fun to see her face on Christmas morning" and the "I can handle it" look.

This is just a random shot of Emily - there are plenty to choose from - of how she looks at some point on any given day. If you click on the photo to enlarge it you MIGHT get an idea of the layers of body glitter on every exposed part of her. Yep Mom, no sweat, I can handle this!

This is what happened when I put my foot down and told her to give her face a rest. Poor Barbie, she has always been so tasteful and understated. Then she met Emily - Stylezilla. Again, click on the photo and check out her lips. Too much is never enough.

Ah but I fear it won't end anytime soon. These are two 8 yr. olds that like to come play and it's hard to tell but they are both in Emily's clothes! Even Olivia's friends have been caught giving Barbie a glamover. This is what I get for not having more video games in the house!

Happy Birthday Jacob!!

Since this was taken in '08 I'm sure it doesn't even come close to how big you are now but I am anxious to update it next summer when you visit! We are so proud of all you are doing! Have a great day.

Oops, she did it again

So I thought when you had girls you got a lot of drama but less injuries? Did I miss a memo? Yes folks, here we are again in the Tripler ER on yet another Sunday getting another cast on another arm (wrist fracture to be exact). This one isn't as dramatic as the "trying to do a back flip off the monkey bars" in 3rd grade. Just your everyday, run of the mill, running around at recess and some 6th grade kid tripped her kind of thing.

I had to go back and look up the old injury and was shocked. Seems like yesterday but look how little she was back in September 07.

My kids are on a strict injury time-out. I have been to the ER three times in 3 months (twice in the last 2 weeks) and although I will soon get my own reserved front row parking spot I am afraid it will come with a visit from CPS!! I'm pretty sure they do it just to torture me ;)

She is feeling fine and in good spirits but a bit bummed about the no soccer thing for 3 weeks, that will mean missing the first 2 games and she has been practicing very hard. The good news is she can still suit up in that pretty light pink jersey and socks outfit and go cheer on her team!!

The good and the bad news!

So the good news is...

Emily's new soccer team got their uniforms and they are PINK!! Hip Hip Hooray! This was a very good day for 5 yr. old soccer (oh, and she scored two breakaway goals...but who really cares).

The big bad news is that Olivia's team also got their uniforms and guess what color they are...PINK. While this is thrilling news for the 5 yr. old set, I thought the 11-12 yr. old set just might pass out from disgust. Apparently pink is a color to be reserved for little sisters and any other application is utterly useless. So, I don't have a photo of her in uniform yet because she won't put it on until the last moment of game day which I believe is next weekend for her.

As for other news, we are slowly getting back into our routine without holidays, birthdays, presents, grandparents and days off. We are in a deep freeze here like the rest of the country...it was only 59* when we woke up yesterday (of course it warmed to a lovely 79* with light breezes soon after) but my kids were "freezing" none the less.

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Hughes for our delicious New Years dinner by the way (in the chaos of the ER visit the next day I forgot to mention). We ate Oklahoma ribs and brisket until we couldn't breathe but it was GOOOOOOD!

OOPS

I forgot I promised to post the "before" shots of the North Shore (you know, before the ER?) Emily's leg is healing nicely and the glue has held so the Dr. said that it will be as good as being stitched up as long as it did. Either way it will scar but she will be better off than if we had done nothing. Anyhoo, it was a gorgeous day...

No, that is not David and I!!

Yummy Shave Ice!

What do you say about that?

This is just before, the rocks in the background are the ones she fell on :(

Aloha Emma

Well, all good things must come to an end or at least a break. We put my Mom on the plane tonight but we had such a nice few weeks and I can't believe all we did! Christmas cookies, cooking, shopping, wrapping, concerts, soccer, sailing, boating, scenic drives, curtains for 2 rooms, Christmas, New Years, birthday parties, cakes, de-decorating, an ER trip and back to school. Whew! No wonder we were in bed by 9:30 every night! It was good fun but now it's time to get back to it I suppose. Here are some photo highlights:

Trip to the ER

Well, this is NOT the North Shore photo opp I was going for today! We girls set out on a beautiful trip after a great lunch at the beach to view the waves and scenery. We pulled over at an inlet to get some great shots of the ocean crashing on the lava rock - and I think we did - but before we could admire the beauty I heard Emily crying. Not the normal cry, the "I am really hurt cry." You Mom's know the one.

Here we are after a nearly one hour ride back from nowhere to the ER where we had the slice in Emily's leg durma bonded. She had a pretty good cut from her fall on the lava rock and although I wasn't up for putting her through stitches the Dr. agreed to glue it for me to try and reduce the scar.

Her sister was her biggest comfort through the ordeal...don't know what we would do without her! I'll post our scenic shots another day!!

Gettin our Girl on!

We had Emily's party on Wednesday - as you can see below this was right down her alley. The girls had a fun time and I am officially done with "events" for at least a month. Happy 2010 to all!
